Fair Trade on Main

FairTrade store clerk

What?

“Fair Trade on Main” is a fair trade store operated by Brethren Community Services. It is open Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. We sell “fair trade” items made by craftspeople in 85 developing countries, who are paid a fair and just wage, by their local standards, for their products. Volunteers man the cash register, greet customers, answer questions, stock shelves, arrange displays, etc. New volunteers are paired with experienced ones and have two hours of training before starting. Brethren Community Services’ primary mission is to develop affordable housing and supportive services for low-income adults with psychiatric disabilities, in cooperation with ShelterCare, a Lane County non-profit that currently operates such services at the site. The store is a way to raise funds for our projects and to educate people about who we are.

Retail Sales Staff

What?

In an age when Albany Area Habitat for Humanity is challenged to find new and innovative ways to fund and accomplish our mission while partnering more deeply with our community, our Habitat ReStore provides a challenging but rewarding solution.

If you are interested in helping in our Habitat for Humanity ReStore as a cashier, stocking, delivery and pickup of donated materials, office and administrative assistance, please consider us in your volunteer efforts. You can volunteer for a day, a week, a month or as you schedule your commitment.

About Our ReStore:

Our affiliate operates a successful and profitable retail/resale store that provides benefits far beyond the financial support of the affiliate and its work. Our store provides job training in the community, provides a source for affordable materials and products for home repair/remodel, prevents large amounts of material from entering the landfill, provides a convenient means for homes and businesses to donate unwanted or excess goods and encourages the responsible rehab and reuse of what would otherwise become waste.
